Work Based Learning

JISC Regional Support Centre (RSC) South West has been providing advice, support and guidance on e-Learning to the Workbased Learning (WBL) sector since August 2007. Over this time the sector has proved to be an equal partner with FE, ACL, HE and other sectors in the ongoing LSC strategy to extend e-learning across all post-16 sectors. The RSC South West team has worked directly with WBL providers in the region to ensure that the opportunities created by the development of new learning technologies can be fully realized to the benefit of learner’s providers and staff.

The South West RSC team has in common with all RSC’s, a dedicated e-Learning Adviser for Workbased Learning (David Rowe) who now supports the sector by offering e-learning advice and guidance at both policy and implementation levels. David also works closely with national partners NIACE, LSIS, BECTA etc, to provide regional signposting of partners WBL initiatives, events and projects. Working with other RSC e-learning advisors, David also offers support on topics such as strategic development and implementation, staff development and learning resources. This support is delivered through our website, a helpdesk, visits to provider premises, events, workshops, forums, newsletters, mailing lists and where possible use of web 2.0 tools.

To ensure that the RSC’s continually meet the needs of WBL providers, the National Work Based Learning Co-ordinator and the nine regional e-Learning advisers for WBL, consult on an on-going basis with national stakeholders, provider networks and a wide range of WBL learning providers. The advisors and coordinator also meet regularly to exchange ideas on best practice and to ensure a joined up advisory process.
