eSafety Series

In the spring term JISC RSC-SW held a series of FREE online sessions focusing on specific aspects of e-Safety on some issues around safeguarding learners, such as managing mobile and collaborative learning and establishing good practice in policy and procedures.

With an increasing demand for responsive delivery - the use of personal devices, teachers employing web 2.0 tools to reach and engage them; managing and monitoring access to content has become central to Teaching & Learning delivery. The key to e-safety lies in enabling staff to develop their skills and knowledge and to encourage learners to become Informed Users who can identify risks and act to protect themselves online. The session recordings, presentations and links are available below. For an overview of the sessions clickhere

Examining e-Safety series

This series examined the new risks and responsibilities facing institutions and gave those exploring the use of new technologies, in their teaching, a chance to assess their practice. There were examples of good practice and resources that support policy development and staff training.
Other sessions in the series included:

Policies and Practices – January 11th

Andrew McCormack from JANET on the Acceptable Use Policy that is at the core of professional internet use in education.

To meet legal requirements and satisfy Ofsted inspection, providers will need to demonstrate a whole organisation approach to e-safety for learners, staff and everyone involved in keeping learners safe. Their policies and procedures should be proactive and based on a realistic assessment of the risks learners face and developed with their involvement.

Infrastructure and Technology – February 4th

Noel Davis. Technical e-learning advisor RSC South West on the way new technologies have changed teaching & learning practice and technical solutions for some of the issues that arise.
